This cosy, upside-down house has the living room on the first floor to maximise enjoyment of the great views of the fells. It provides a great base from which to explore the popular local countryside of the Lake District National Park, and offers easy access to the towns of Cockermouth, the birthplace of William Wordsworth, and Keswick, with its abundance of pubs, restaurants and shopping experiences.
The bedrooms and bathroom are on the ground floor, which leaves the entire first floor for the open-plan living room, kitchen and dining room, which is a great space to spend time with your family and friends. This really is the heart of the cottage, and so it should be because you get great views up and down the valley from the front and the rear. The kitchen is well-equipped, with a coffee machine and a dishwasher. There is an external utility room which has a sink and a washer/dryer. Situated in The Vale of Lorton, which runs from Cockermouth down to Crummock Water and Buttermere, the quaint village of High Lorton has a little shop and an excellent village pub and restaurant. This lovely property is situated within the village, which makes Melbreak a great choice for those who prefer a more rural location. High Lorton is very popular with walkers and cyclists, thanks to its easy access to some amazing walks and cycle routes, including the Whinlatter Visitor Centre, 3¾ miles. With free access to England’s only true mountain forest, rising 1000ft above sea level, it provides a range of activities for all ages, from forest mountain trails to the high rope adventure course, Go Ape, and an excellent play area and Gruffalo Trail specifically for younger children. You can also hire bikes or visit the café, it really is a great day out for all ages. Beach 12 miles. Shop 350 yards, pub and restaurant ¾ mile.
