The surroundings are true masterpieces. Paciano is a fortified medieval village near the magnificent Renaissance Panicale. Chiusi is the city of King Porsenna, with Etruscan tombs and an underground city. Montepulciano, scene of Twilight II, has the most beautiful cellar in the world according to Newsweek. Cortona (under the Tuscan sun) has an extraordinary museum with the oldest lamp in the world (4th century BC); Castiglione del Lago on Lake Trasimeno has a fortress built by Frederick II to be reached through the city walls; there is a nice weekly outdoor market, at Christmas a huge Christmas tree by the lake. A place to admire the sunset is the Maggiore island to be reached by ferry. Sarteano where a new Etruscan tomb was recently found. Cetona has prehistoric caves and in San Casciano as in Bagni San Filippo you can swim in the summer and winter in natural thermal springs. Chianciano has a wonderful SPA....
The regional capital is also wonderful: Perugia and its secret Rocca Paolina.
There is still so much to see: Arezzo and Siena with the beautiful antique markets every first Sunday of the month, and of course Assisi with the two churches in a row one above the other dedicated to San Francesco.
If you stay more than a week, don't miss the Cascata delle Marmore, the highest waterfall in Europe, and the Grotte di Frasassi, the most beautiful cave I've ever seen in my life.
If you want to take a train from Chiusi, you can easily reach Rome and Florence in about an hour.
Inside the estate we have many species of wild animals: foxes, roe deer, hedgehogs, porcupines, wild boars, hares, squirrels and fireflies in June, July. Falcons often circle above us. A family of barn owls is often seen at night. Robin redbreasts, jays, hoopoes, green beaks, bee-eaters and other birds are regular visitors. Pheasants and partridges are often released here.
Spring is the season of flowers and lasts until autumn with violets, wildflowers, sunflowers and cyclamen. From the end of September until the beginning of November, many species of mushrooms can be found.
For a unique experience join us the first week of November for the olive harvest.
At night, don't miss the spectacle of the dark sky full of stars; almost every day we can see the ISS or the STAR LINK TRAIN with the naked eye.
We have a facebook page where you can find photos of all the activities here and around. Miralaghi
