Nestled in the Santa Monica Mountains, this secluded retreat is located on Garapito creek, a seasonal natural stream that runs from January to May. The cabin is located on a dead end road and has its own private driveway with parking for 1 or 2 cars. The cabin is surrounded by lush native Live Oak trees.
******Our favorite part is the outdoor bathing area which has gorgeous views to Eagle Rock and the Santa Monica mountains. The cabin overlooks our neighbors horses and donkeys, so you may hear occasional neighing. In general, you will experience all kinds of wildlife. Hummingbirds, Finches, California quails, frogs, Monarch butterflies, wild rabbits, owls, peacocks, hawks and more (sometimes snakes, beware where you are walking).
******The cabin is bright and airy during the day, yet quiet and dark at night. In order to respect the wildlife of the canyon, we keep outdoor night lights and landscape lights to a minimum.
******Inside, the space is minimal and clutter-free, a perfect spot for a writer's retreat or a peaceful break from the city. The kitchen and bathroom have all the essentials needed for 2 people. Feel free to pick any fresh herbs from the deck.
******The bedroom has a built in closet and the bed is a comfortable Tuft and Needle Queen mattress.
******The bathing area behind the cabin includes an outdoor tub with hot water. The outdoor shower has cold water only -- for rinsing after a surf or for cooling during a hot day.
******We are a short walk to the state park with amazing trails and a 10min drive to the ocean. You can walk to town (though not very pedestrian friendly) or drive for 7min. We are 3min drive to Topanga Living Cafe. Topanga Canyon Boulevard is a scenic route with gorgeous views but note that it is a very windy road. Also note, that many roads in the canyon are not paved and dark at night.
*******NOTES:
-We live on the other side of the creek but you will have complete privacy. In general, we will keep our distance but if you need anything, please reach out anytime.
-Spider webs and dust are part of living in the canyon and it is impossible to have a completely dust and spider web free environment. If you have allergies, beware of excessive pollen and of dust in general.
-Smoking is absolutely forbidden. Smoking is frowned upon in Topanga, due to the fire risk. Please use the BBQ grill with utmost care and attention.
-There is no cel reception in the canyon but the cabin has strong wifi.
-Road closures or outages are rare but can happen. Topanga has a lot of quirks but that is why we love it!
-We don't allow non-registered guests on the property without our consent. There is a 3 person max for overnight guests.
-We do not allow pets.
-We can provide a baby travel bed, let us know if you need one.
