Almuñecar is nature, and we recommend visiting Peña Escrita a nature park with different animals like zebras, hippos,lemures, bears etc... Also The botanical and ornitologic parks contains plants and birds diversity from all the continents and must be a compulsory visit.

Summary: Beautiful property with stunning views of the valley below with more to see if you venture further up the mountain. We chose not to hire a car which was absolutely fine we simply walked down the mountain to the fruit shop which has a bus stop outside, although we only ever saw one bus pass there, and got a taxi from there into Almunecar and a taxi back up to the property. Don't try to walk to Almunecar like we did, it's too far and there are very few footpaths along the busy roads and our encounter with a snake was interesting but not one we would want to repeat. The buses from Almunecar are regular and reliable so you can easily explore further afield via public transport but I will say that having a car would have been easier. We found 2 supermarkets close to the bus station, Lidl and Mercadona, both providing fantastic fruit and veg and everything else you could need, we especially liked the fish counter in Mercadona. The property itself is fantastic, the double bed was slightly uncomfortable and rather creaky but we slept well all the same. The owners have provided everything you could need except a kettle!? but we just used a saucepan instead. I would recommend buying bottled water as our coffee wasn't very nice made with tap water. Outside the property offers comfortable spaces for eating, relaxing and catching the sun at any time of day, the pool is perfect for a cooling dip but not big enough for a good swim. The terrace is a great place to observe wildlife, we saw lesser kestrels daily and were visited by a house gecko. The owners were friendly and easily contactable but left us to enjoy our stay in peace once they had shown us around. They only speak Spanish but with an online translator we were able to converse when needed. The WiFi is excellent. We would definitely stay there again.
