CHARMING FARM COTTAGE NR OXFORD, LARGE PRIVATE GARDEN, VIEWS OVER FARMLAND | Cottage in Witney

2 Bedroom Cottage in Witney
THE OLD STABLES is a converted cottage on a farm just outside Witney, near Oxford. The cottage is an ideal country bolt-hole from which to tour the region or simply relax and unwind. It enjoys an elevated position with views over farmland and surrounding fields running down to the River Windrush and Witney beyond.
The cottage has its own south facing garden and terrace with the same glorious views. A few sheep graze the fields.
Inside the cottage, there are two good size bedrooms along with a very well equipped kitchen with all modern conveniences including dishwasher and washer/dryer. The kitchen table seats four - or, if extended, up to six. The two double bedrooms upstairs, one with a king size double and one with twin beds, both have excellent views over the surrounding countryside. Both rooms are bright and airy with skylights as well as windows and nicely fitted out. The downstairs bathroom has a bath with shower above, stone tiled walls and floors. Inside the sitting room is seating in front of a wood burning stove. There is a large flat screen TV, DVD player and music centre as well as a Wi-Fi connection. The sitting room has large French doors on to the patio with table and chairs, shaded by a parasol, and an enclosed garden beyond. We have a cot and high chair available on request. There is plenty of secure, off-road, parking.
There are a number of appealing elements including the wood burner and the wooden / tiled flooring throughout, which give it a cool, contemporary feel. A warm and welcoming holiday home perfect for two, ideal for four.
In the fields beyond the garden sheep graze and hay is mown. It is an idyllic English rural spot but less than half a mile from the lovely town of Witney and only 13 miles from the university town of Oxford, city of dreaming spires and home of Oxford University - the oldest university in the English-speaking world.
Closer to home is Blenheim Palace, a world heritage site and birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. A visit to the house or walk in the grounds is highly recommended.
Talking of walking, there are many fabulous walks very close to the farm. The closest, River Windrush Walk, takes you to the picturesque ruins of Minster Lovell Hall and its Dovecot, once home to Richard III's henchman, Richard Lovell. In the pretty mediaeval village, take time to visit the Old Swan pub for a drink or a meal.
Indeed, you are never more than a couple of miles from a historic Cotswold pub. Just down the road in Crawley Village is the Lamb - excellent meals.
Another circular walk takes you to the village of Swinbrook where you should call in at the Swan Inn, the gastro pub decorated with pictures of the extraordinary Mitford family, who were major figures in the political, literary and social scenes for much of the 20th century and lived in Swinbrook House in the early 1930's.
The pretty touristic village of Burford is only 5 miles away and on the way to the pretty Thames-side town of Lechlade you can visit Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens.
In fact there is so much to see and do that the only way to find out is to come and stay!
