The small town of Monte is very close by: tourists from all over the world take the cable car (Teleférico) from Funchal up to Monte and enjoy the wonderful view of Funchal from the gondola; back down to Funchal it is then often with the famous basket sleds, which are each steered by two basket sled drivers.
