This recently updated bungalow, located in the beautiful hamlet of Port Mulgrave is a hidden gem along the North Yorkshire coastline. Sleeping up to four guests across two bedrooms this tastefully decorated holiday home is the perfect retreat for anyone looking to enjoy peace and quiet with exceptional views.
The Space:
Ammonite Cottage is a spacious, split-level, two bedroom bungalow located on the cliff top at Port Mulgrave. The views from this cottage are truly stunning.
The ground floor consists of a semi-open plan kitchen, living and dining space, one king bedroom and the bathroom.
LIVING ROOM
The living room seats four guests comfortably in the cream leather sofas. You can get cosy in front of the log fire or open the patio doors onto the raised terrace and look out over the North Yorkshire coastline.
DINING ROOM AND KITCHEN
The dining room sits between the living room and kitchen. With a glass top table and solid wood, leather cushion chairs. Head through the archway to the bright and airy kitchen. Perfect for cooking and socialising with the large island in the centre of the room. The fully equipped kitchen features a large gas range cooker, microwave, freestanding fridge and kettle.
BEDROOM
The first bedroom is a simple space, featuring a double bed, matching bed side tables and chest of drawers. The rope bedside lamps are a lovely accessory adding a nautical theme to the interior, reminding you of the sea views beyond the cottage.
BATHROOM
The family size bathroom features a bath with overhead shower, WC and basin. The starfish framed picture and hanging driftwood accessory carry the seaside theme into this room.
DRESSING ROOM AND BEDROOM
Upstairs you will discover a large kingsize bedroom and dressing room. The large feature bed gives a real sense of French chic while the sea blue beams running overhead give you the lovely traditional cottage feeling. The dressing area comprises of large dressing table and matching mirror, a coffee table and two wooden chairs. From this room you have stunning views of the beautiful north Yorkshire coastline.
GARDEN
At the rear of the property there is a large raised decking area, perfect for enjoying your morning coffee and breakfast, where sea views are always on the menu. Follow the gravel path down the garden, towards the sea, with a stone lined path and garden furniture along the way, this spot is wonderful if you’re looking for some outdoor space to enjoy.

The Neighborhood:
Port Mulgrave was once famous for ironstone mining, which transformed this part of the coast in the mid-nineteenth century. There were ironstone seams in the coastal rocks, and also inland at nearby Grinkle, and the sheltered bay made a good harbour for boats coming to ship the ironstone out to Jarrow. The industry is long gone, and little remains of the harbour, but the shoreline at Port Mulgrave stands as a reminder of the industry that once characterised this coast and provides fantastic cliff walks to both Whitby and Saltburn.
Getting Around:
Visit the seaside towns of Saltburn, Staithes, Whitby and Scarborough, or why not head in land and explore the infamous North Yorkshire Railway. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is a preserved historic railway stretching for 18 miles through the heart of the North York Moors National Park, from Pickering via Levisham, Newton Dale and Goathland to Grosmont, with a further 6 mile extension over Network Rail’s Esk Valley line to Whitby and occasionally Battersby. It is the largest preserved heritage railway in the UK in terms of route mileage operated and passenger numbers.
The Yorkshire coastline encompasses some of the UK’s most rugged and charming countryside, from tiny fishing villages clinging to rocky cliffs to glorious stretches of white sand and family-friendly seaside resorts, with everything from windswept abbeys to the county’s best fish and chips.

Summary: We were very lucky with the weather - mid April and glorious. The cottage is recently renovated and smart however I like a lot of light so the central section of the cottage could be thought of dark - however the views from the patio are memorable and the kitchen gets the evening light - worth the gamble off season - high season would be amazing. Local visits are numerous - enjoy.
