About the house:
Upstairs, the primary bedroom is very large (20 feet by 13 feet), has a king size bed, and overlooks woods and a beautiful front yard, with play set and garden. The primary bathroom has a double sink and a separate room with a large tub where you can soak for hours watching the birds or just take a shower and look out that same window. It’s where we generally keep the Keurig coffee maker.
The other wing of the house consists of two additional bedrooms with plenty of sunshine, full beds and a full bathroom.
The back bedroom overlooks the pond, the decks, the gazebo, a garden, and plenty of woods.
The front bedroom overlooks the front yard and front garden and has better overall bird-watching. In the summer, the birds just never stop.
We have a full size, top-of-the-line raised air mattress, too, should you ever have weekend guests.
Downstairs are a modern fully-equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances; a dining room with a farmhouse table that sits eight, a side table, and sliding doors that open to the top deck; the den, with a fireplace should the nights get chilly; an office; and a large, comfortable living room with an ultra-plush oversize couch, leather recliners, tons of books, and a large TV with Netflix, Amazon prime, and tons of TV stations. There is a small bathroom downstairs as well.
The entire house, upstairs and down, is filled with beautiful art.
The backyard is secluded with a two-tiered deck. The upper deck has the barbecue, table and chairs, the screened-in gazebo, also with table and chairs (and WIFI if you want to use it as a satellite office). You can see the butterflies and hummingbirds that like to flutter above the deck from the gazebo. From the dining room, too.
The lower deck overlooks the pond. It has a picnic table, and a lot of comfortable chairs, and a loveseat. It's a great setting where you can spend the days looking at the pond and the nights gazing at the stars.
The wrap-around porch in front is covered, runs the length of the house, has plenty of chimes, plenty of charm, and overlooks the front yard and front garden, where different shrubs and flowers bloom throughout the summer. Rain or shine, it is made for relaxation. There is an outdoor settee, some chairs, and a hammock that holds two. Should you have kids that want to slide on the slide or swing on the swings, you can join them or watch them from the porch.
In addition to all the birds, there are deer, squirrels, and chipmunks. Come nightfall, the fireflies come out.
The firepit is in the front of the house, but if you’d prefer it on the side or back yard, it can be moved.
A lot of people come here for the hiking. There are several exceptional hikes nearby. We are seven or eight miles from the Falling Water Preserve, which hugs the Hudson, and attracts birds that don’t usually make it to our property. They have a very descriptive website.
We are seven or eight miles from the Esopus Bend Nature Preserve: birds, toads, dragonflies, fantastic views. They, too, have a very descriptive website.
We are also seven or eight miles from Devil's Path, which has been described as the toughest hiking trail in the Eastern United States. This is for the most experienced hikers only. They also have a very descriptive website.
There are a number of other top-notch hiking and walking trails for all levels, a beach, canoeing and kayaking, fishing, and a couple of terrific playgrounds. If you like to jump off cliffs, there are those nearby, too. And you land in water!
There is a family beach six miles away, and larger beaches twenty and thirty minutes away.
Also within ten or fifteen minutes are supermarkets, antiquing, music venues, art museums, farm stands and two farmer's markets, two movie theaters, HITS, health food stores, the Saugerties Lighthouse, Opus 40, Bearsville Theater, Maverick Concerts, the Levon Helm Ramble, Cooper Lake, the Karma Triyana Tibetan Monastery, Magic Mountain, tennis courts and golf courses.
Twenty minutes away are the Ashokan Reservoir and the Kingston waterfront. Within thirty minutes are the Bard College Fisher Center (designed by Frank Gehry), Spiegeltent, Kaaterskill Falls, and a whole lot more.
There are a slew of restaurants very nearby and breweries and wine vineyards not that far.
We close to so many attractions and so much to do, and only ten minutes from NYS Thruway exit 20, yet in the woods, far from the stresses of the highway, the city, and the rest of the world.
