The Lemon Tree Cottage is one of six original timber workers houses to have been restored in the Old Saw Mill Town at Brooman, adjacent to the Clyde River. Lemon Tree Cottage is one of many that have been restored on the property. The homesteads date back to the late 1800's to early 1900's and once held a small township including timber mill, post office, school, dance hall, mechanics, galley, cottages like the Lemon Tree or River Stone for the saw mill workers and their families and a general store where goods could be ordered in on the mail truck from Milton and the only phone line in the Brooman/Shallow Crossing area.
The bedroom has a king sized bed with luxury linens supplied, ceiling fan and windows. There is an original double flu chimney with firebox installed in the cooking fireplace and a gas cook top and exhaust installed in the kitchen side fireplace of the chimney.
Immerse your self in the incredible surrounding from giant spotted gums, mountain ranges, local wildlife and the tranquility of the river. Brooman Village is a 2650 acre property with plenty to explore.
The building is made of all local timber throughout including original floorboards and Coachwood architraves. The living room panelling and window bench are made from Casuarina. All the timber used is either original, Brooman recycled or locally sourced endemic hardwoods.
Relax by the fire in the cosy living area with a beverage and a book or take in the incredible views from your private balcony with a day bed where you can star gaze of a night time. There are many river access points on the property for a swim or for the more adventurous pack your Kayak and head down stream and take in the majestic Clyde river.
The Lemon Tree Cottage has a separate external bathroom which comes off the back (main access) porch and features an incredible full length bath, shower and coachwood vanity and sink.
The property is completely off grid and features a central solar system on the old shed and underground cabling to the various houses and other buildings. Water comes from the pristine rain that falls from the sky, collected and stored in galvanised iron tanks. Hot water comes from the instantaneous gas water heater located on the outside of the building.
The old town site is set opposite a large bend in the Clyde river that many believe to be the largest and deepest fresh water hole on the River Bhundoo. Deep water extends from the bend nearly kilometre upstream. It is a great place for canoeing, fishing for Bass, Platypus watching or simply listening to the dozens of unique and beautiful endemic bird species of this area.
There is a resident mob of Eastern Grey Kangaroos that typically come out from the tree line at dusk, Red Neck Wallabies dart about the native shubs along the river and flats, local wombats are common and lately bandicoots too.
The property itself begins at the old town and stretches south for more than 4km on both sides of the river. At 2650 acres it includes spectacular mountain, forest, river flats and grassland views, This is one of the most pristine rivers on the eastern sea board of Australia. Immerse yourself in the incredible surrounding from giant spotted gums, mountain ranges, thriving local wildlife and the healing tranquillity of the river.
Only a short drive from Lemon Tree Cottage you will find the Clyde River Berry Farm which is open during the Christmas school holidays. Take a stroll through the Blueberry groves and enjoy the self pick options or simply have one of their delicious berry ice creams that are made to order on the spot. Bawley Point is just 17km from Brooman. Close too is Pebbly Beach, Murramarang National Park, Pigeon House, The Castle, Mogood Lookout and Shallow Crossing. Milton and Ulladulla are 30minutes drive.
Brooman is located between Ulladulla and Batemans Bay and is accessible most of the time with a 2WD. The most direct access from the Princes Hwy is via Termeil and exactly 12km with roughly 8km being dirt road. If weather conditions are very wet you will need an SUV or 4WD to access the property. The property does not provide Wi-Fi or a Television and is completely off grid. Mobile Reception is limited however if you do have Telstra you will be able to get a bar or two. Hot spotting from your phone may be available from the top shed if required depending on your provider however this cannot be guaranteed.
