Whitbarrow Village on the edge of the Lake District is 8 miles from Junction 40 of the M6 and is midway between Penrith and Keswick.
The cottage is situated on a purpose built resort overlooking the Northern Lake District Fells. The 'upside down' accommodation ensures that the open plan beamed living accommodation can make the most of the superb distant views of the Pennines and Cross Fell. A small balcony approached from the living room overlooks a grassed area to the fields and hills beyond.
Mallard Cottage was built in 2004 and has been used as a holiday home since then. It situated within Whitbarrow Village with its cobbled walkways, landscaped gardens, duck pond and secluded spots where you can relax with a favourite book or watch the wild life around you.
The leisure center 7am - 9pm daily includes the Reception Desk, an indoor heated swimming pool,( towels for pool area are available foc at the pool) children's pool, spa bath, fitness room, sauna, steam room ,childrens indoor play area and table tennis tables.
There is a selection of DVDs, and WiFi is now free and fully available in the cottage.
Location: Conveniently located just fifteen minutes from the M6 motorway and halfway between Penrith and Keswick and ten minutes from Ullswater, Whitbarrow Village resort sits beneath Blencathra Fell and offers both luxury and serenity to all who visit – as well as easy access to the delights of the Lake District, the Eden Valley and the Northern Pennines.
The legendary unspoilt grandeur of the Lake District has proved an inspiration to generations of poets, artists and writers alike, and the area’s most famous son, William Wordsworth, declared it ‘the loveliest spot that man hath ever found.’
Whitbarrow Village has its own bar and restaurant providing very good food and drinks.
As well as plentiful mountain biking throughout the area the C2C cycle route passes the end of the driveway and the lanes to the North of the village are quiet, undulating and ideal for road cycling.
The Lake District is renowned for lakes, mountains, walking, climbing and many other attractions. Whitbarrow Village is away from the 'honey-pot' sites but all can be easily be reached by car or bicycle. There are good walks from the Village and quiet lanes lead to country pubs where excellent food and local beer can be found.There is also a lovely outdoor pool in Greystoke,the nearest village.Check for opening times. The town of Keswick, 11 miles away, has many shops and opportunities for coffee, snacks and meals. Here also can be found the renowned Pencil Museum, Cars of the Stars, Keswick Museum and the nearby Castlerigg Stone Circle. and Mining Museum. Keswick at the head of Derwentwater has opportunities for sailing, canoeing and boat trips. Further on from Keswick lies Whinlatter Forest with the 'Go Ape' course and many challenging mountain bike trails whilst a further 4 miles away, near Bassenthwaite, lies Trotters World of Animals, ideal for children. An Alpaca farm is located in the nearby village of Stainton and the renowned Rheged Centre with shops & 3D cinema a mile or so beyond.
Penrith at 9 miles is a local market town with a population of 17,000. Three supermarkets (Morrisons, Sainsburys and Booths) can be found here. There is a local museum and a Center Parcs village 3 miles beyond has day tickets which can be purchased from the Tourist Information Centre in the town.
Penrith is the gateway to the Northern Pennines and a winding road from the town climbs through the Eden Valley and its many small villages, over the Hartside Pass at 1904 feet (cafe) before descending to Alston, the highest market town in England.
Closer to Whitbarrow lies Pooley Bridge, 8 miles, which is situated at the northern end of Ullswater. Here you can take steamer trips up the lake to Glenridding which is the starting point for some easy or challenging walks including the infamous Striding Edge leading to the summit of Helvellyn at 3317 feet. The waterfalls at Aira Force are a superb site after heavy rainfall. These can also now be accessed via a new Ullswater steamer landing stage. On the outskirts of Keswick there is an excellent indoor climbing wall.
The property does not allow pets, but there are kennels very close by on a neighbouring farm, www.berrier-boarders.co.uk a small 5* boarding establishment. Dogs are walked four times daily on the 35 acres, or pick them
up in the morning then drop them off at bedtime, after a great walk in the fells.
