The guesthouse is a 10 minute drive to the city center (Pioneer Courthouse Square). Ride shares (Lyft and Uber) typically arrive within 5-10 minutes. There is ample, free street parking outside of the guesthouse. A dedicated parking spot is available for guests in the driveway.
The guesthouse is located in Portland Heights, an iconic neighborhood in Portland's West Hills. It's a quiet, residential area, with beautiful old Portland homes and incredible views. Vista Springs Cafe, one of the last-standing genuine neighborhood restaurants in Portland, is a short walk through the neighborhood (0.2 miles from the house). We're less than a mile from the Marquam Nature Park - its several trails and breathtaking views wind through the West Hills and connect to OHSU and Council Crest. Only ten minutes to downtown by car, we're even nearer to Portland's renowned NW Alphabet District. There you'll find Zupan's, a premium grocery store with an excellent deli, and some of the best (sales tax free!) shopping the city has to offer. We're centrally located for easy access to all parts of the city, including nearby freeway entrances to Beaverton (Nike's World Headquarters) and Hillsboro (home of Intel).
Perched in the West Hills of Portland, this detached guesthouse blends seamlessly with the original 1960’s multi-level home next door. Generous multi-level decks flanking this compact home on both the North and South sides inspire indoor-outdoor living.
Welcoming you is a street-facing balcony featuring a sculptural bronze and concrete fountain. Swing open the wide French doors and allow the soothing sounds to fill the space! The home’s split-level entry connects the upper-level living and lower level sleeping areas. Once inside, a ribbon of white-washed oak flows from the entry foyer to the lower level, wrapping the stairs and walls with its warmth. Upstairs the wood’s texture is seen in stark relief to the polished concrete floors and the crisp white walls of the vaulted space. Downstairs the wood, coupled with the muted tones of moss green walls, lend the sleeping area a tranquil feel. Step outside where the landscape’s terraced levels reveal lush Pacific Northwest natives whose rich foliage and texture define a garden sanctuary.
Meticulous attention to detail can be seen throughout the house from the elegant kitchen casework fitted with quartz counters to the spa-like lower level bath completely sheathed in Calacatta marble. Thoughtfully placed windows afford considerable natural light with utmost privacy, while radiantly heated floors guarantee a comfortable environment customized to your needs.
Guests will have full, private access to all areas of the guesthouse. That includes three balconies: one street-facing on the main level, one overlooking lush NW foliage off the kitchen, and one off the bedroom on the lower level. Stairs from the lower balcony lead to a bonus patio area with chairs, also dedicated to guests. Below the small patio is a dining table and fire-pit that guests are welcome to access. The owners of the main house, Sarah and Michael, share the dining and fire-pit area.
Guests control the amount of interaction and privacy they desire. Katherine, our cohost, is always available to answer questions or provide recommendations via Airbnb messenger, phone, or text. Owners Sarah and Michael reside in the main house next door and are available to answer questions and accommodate guests' needs. Communicate your desired level of interaction and we will happily oblige!
The home is limited to three full-time guests, but we welcome you to entertain small groups as desired. However, we do not allow parties or large events.
The guesthouse is detached from the main house where owners Sarah and Michael reside with their two Glen of Imaal Terriers, Rua & Tristan. The dogs never enter the guesthouse, making it a dander-free residence. Although the guesthouse is private and detached, Sarah and Michael are typically onsite and available to answer questions and accommodate guests' needs.
We’re happy to make up the sofa bed for you. Please let us know if you would like us to set it up on your behalf. See the printed house manual for additional details. Extra bedding is located on the lower level, in the far right push-latch closet.
There is ample, free street parking. A dedicated parking spot in the main driveway is available for an additional fee. See the "Getting around" section for details.

Summary: This is a romantic’s dream getaway! The house is perfectly situated in a lovely neighborhood with the most gorgeous architecture. The house definitely has its own personality that welcomes in the beautiful outdoors. It’s the perfect place for two with spacious patios which was perfect for our outdoor charcuterie and wine at sunset. Additionally, it had absolutely any and everything anyone would need as far as kitchen and bathroom appliances and amenities. The owners were the perfect host and hostess who were so friendly and helpful with suggestions on places to go and restaurants. We felt welcomed from the time we pulled up until the time we left. We had a wonderful time!
