Pondalowie Beach House is located within Innes National Park at the foot of Yorke Peninsula. Offering magnificent views of Pondalowie Bay from its location on the top of the sand dunes, you have the option of lazing on the deck, fishing from the beach, walking through the many surrounding bays or surfing from one of SA's best surf breaks. This is back to basics holidaying with some luxuries on hand if you want or need them, but most of all this is Shack Life.
The bay is a working Crayfish port and you can see the fishermen depart and return to the bay with their catch and is one of the best places to launch your boat for easy access to Wedge Island and other great fishing spots.
There are Fishing Charters that leave the bay each day and can be a great way to catch your own feast for you to cook on the BBQ on the deck that night for your dinner.
Pondalowie Beach House is off grid and has limited power supplied by a solar system with batteries, rain water is the only water supply and is a great example of how to live sustainably without missing out on luxuries.
Entry fees to access the National Park are also payable and are not included in the rate.
The House
The Beach House is 2 storey with sleeping and bathroom facilities on the ground floor, please note that the bedrooms are not defined as individual rooms, rather than spaces within the ground floor and offer limited privacy. Due to the stairs and the split level nature of the property and the deck area, we advise that this property is unsuitable for children under 10 without close supervision. The entire first floor is living space, the kitchen outlook is across the village and rear dunes, and the living room overlooks the deck and entire bay area. Keep and eye out at the bottom of the deck on dusk and you may even spot "Kev" our resident Kangaroo!
Kick off the sand from your feet at the bottom of the stairs and relax, please not this is not a party house and is limited to 6 adults and is a non smoking property. Due to its location pets are strictly prohibited and this is enforced by local DEWNR staff in the area and significant fines are payable.
The Amenities
The House is fully stocked with glassware, crockery, cookware and loads of condiments
and is designed to accommodate 6 adults comfortably.
There is a full kitchen with a gas fridge and gas upright stove and a quality covered BBQ on the deck. If you really feel the need to keep in touch with the rest of the world, there is a flat screen TV with Blueray, Surround Sound, iPod Dock and a Sat TV connection. The solar power is limited and will also provide 240V power to charge items such as mobile phones and devices but isn't powerful enough for items such as hair dryers, car fridges or small motors etc.
There is a bathroom with a "low flow shower" i.e. the small hot water system can pump in low volume as this house is on rainwater only. We ask that you respect this precious resource and you will be amazed at how good a rainwater shower can feel after a day on the beach. The toilet is outdoors and is a well maintained long drop which is pumped out on a regular basis.
