Negative: I waited a month before writing this, but after traveling across six continents and more than 30 countries using Booking.com, without a single issue until now, I was deeply disappointed by this experience. My family and I booked this home months in advance (confirmed in mid-October) for a late December stay while attending a funeral. Ten of us rented a van and drove five hours to rural Ohio. A few hours before arrival, I attempted to contact the host because no check-in instructions had been provided. Despite multiple phone calls, texts, emails, and messages through the app, there was no response. We arrived after dark to a locked home with no access information. Given the freezing temperatures, we waited at a local restaurant while I continued trying to reach the host. Ultimately, I had to contact Booking.com customer service, who provided the access code so we could enter the home. Later that night, around 11:30 PM, the host began ringing the doorbell, waking up everyone in the house. She apologized and stated she did not know we were coming, despite the confirmed booking. She acknowledged the home was not prepared and offered to refund part of our stay. While the house itself met our needs in terms of size and location, it was not ready: we unloaded the dishwasher, made beds, washed and folded laundry, distributed towels, and effectively cleaned and set up the home ourselves. At minimum, the cleaning fee should have been refunded, as we assumed those responsibilities from the start. What was meant to be a smooth, turnkey stay during a difficult time instead became stressful and time-consuming. Since checking out in December, I have reached out multiple times regarding the promised refund and received no response. Booking.com has also attempted to contact the host and confirmed they have been unsuccessful.
