Summary: This house has so much potential, but unfortunately it's not well maintained. We checked in on Wednesday evening for our daughter's wedding on Saturday. The dryer didn't work and wasn't repaired until Saturday after the wedding. The carpet in the basement bedroom had wet spots from water seeping through the concrete. A dehumidifier would solve that problem. One of the bunkbeds smelled of urine. The master bedroom mattress was very comfortable and I'm very picky about mattresses. However, when I stripped the sheets there was a large urine stain on the mattress cover. Too much unnecessary clutter (no, that doesn't make if feel homey) means the cleaning crew can't get to the necessary things like mopping the basement floor and cleaning vents. Huge spider webs were around the front door and bees had nests in the ceiling above the swing. The screened back porch was disgusting and unusable with stained pillows and spider webs. There was a turkey roasting pan and various sized pans but only one medium size skillet. That made fixing breakfast difficult. I had to buy hangers to hang our clothes. We had several midnight runs to the airport picking up guests and had to use our phones for light going to and from our vehicle to the house because the outside lights were not operational. I loved the front porch, minus the spiders and bees, and the quietness of the mountains. We also rented Lydia's Barn for the wedding. This was also dirty and not well maintained. One table was unstable and not usable, the chairs are flimsy and some had rusted legs. The air conditioning units were filthy, one unit didn't work at all and one unit worked really well but leaked water all over the kitchen making it a hazard for the caterers. Thankfully, someone came out immediately and cleaned the Barn and the wedding went off without a hitch and was beautiful. Weddings are stressful, having a destination wedding is even more stressful (we came from Florida). Some of the stress would have been avoided if Lydia Mountain had better quality control over their properties. This is my hometown and our family visits at least once a year. I will start looking for alternative lodging.
