Indeed, Villa Ortega is a fantastic base for family or friends wishing to holiday in the Côte d'Azur, so loved for its coastline, wonderful towns and beautiful hinterland. More than just a holiday villa, the welcoming lounge showcases many artefacts from the owners’ travels far and wide and the kitchen is well-equipped for cooking meals chez vous, no doubt to be enjoyed on the terrace by the upper part of the garden. All four bedrooms are air-conditioned and there are two elegant bathrooms, one with a shower and the other with a bath.
The lower garden is home to the circular swimming pool encircled by sun loungers in pretty surroundings. That said, you may prefer to spend all your time at the beach – the coastline just north of Antibes is only 3km by car, close to several summer family attractions (Marineland, Pirate’s Island, Adventure Golf etc) whilst the sandy shores of Juan-les-Pins, a chic resort famed for its beachside restaurants, trendy bars, watersports and boat trips, is just over a 10-minute drive away.
Of course, the charm of Antibes’ old town awaits, a jewel of the French Riviera with its rich heritage and historic character. Explore the warren of medieval lanes, dine out in inviting restaurants and admire the glorious views from its ramparts before heading down to its glitzy marina.
In one direction you have the glamour of Cannes around 14km away or drive north-east towards Nice, Cap Ferrat and beyond. Look out for seasonal ferries to Monaco or Saint-Tropez to experience yet more of the Côte d'Azur or stay closer to home and visit idyllic hilltop villages from Biot and Mougins to Vence and St Paul de Vence following the footsteps of some of the world’s most famous writers and artists.

Villa Ortega is in a residential neighbourhood in the suburbs of Antibes, only 4km from the heart of its historic quarter. Fly into Nice Airport (19km) or take one of the fast train services into Antibes with direct departures from Paris Gare de Lyon.
Soak up the character of Antibes’ old town as you wander around its warren of narrow lanes coming across old houses, pretty shops, inviting restaurants and bars. One of the French Riviera’s most charming towns, admire its medieval heritage and old ramparts with the most amazing views down to the marina and across the Mediterranean. Art enthusiasts will be keen to visit the Musée Picasso, then gaze at the landscapes that have inspired painters over the many years.
Take a boat trip from Antibes’ harbour or Juan-les-Pins for a tour of the French Riviera coastline whilst ferries will whisk you away to Sainte Marguerite Island just off the coast of Cannes. Seasonal boats also depart all the way to Monaco or Saint-Tropez for a spectacular day out – just check dates and times in advance.
The nearest beach is just north of Antibes, around 3km by car, also close to several family attractions around Marineland. Further south are the sandy shores of Juan-les-Pins (5.5km), famed for its chic beachside restaurants, seasonal watersports and vibrant nightlife loved by Parisians in the height of the summer, whilst the little bays around Cap d’Antibes are also idyllic, some easier to reach than others. Indeed, the Cap d’Antibes is a paradise for keen walkers thanks to its coastal paths and the most sensational vistas.
Elsewhere along the coastline, spend the day in the beautiful city of Nice (24km) with its art galleries, museums, flower markets and beachside promenade or soak up the ambience of glamourous Cannes (14km) and its glorious palm-fringed beaches.
There is also so much to discover in the Côte d'Azur hinterland. Start off by visiting the artist studios of picturesque Biot (4.5km) famous for its glassblowing, then head to the hilltop village of Mougins (11km) following the footsteps of Picasso and dining out in gastronomic restaurants. The Friday morning market in historic Valbonne (14km) is a wonderful experience and you are also well placed for exploring Grasse (22km), the perfume capital of France.
Art-lovers should find the time to spend in the gorgeous hilltop villages of Vence and St Paul de Vence, both just over half an hour away, home to Matisse’s Chapelle du Rosaire and the modern art exhibitions at Fondation Maeght with its Joan Miró sculpture garden.
