my past guests who have stayed here, have often given me feedback on how much they appreciated staying at my lake house because of the convenient central location between Seattle & Tacoma, and the abundance of opportunities for dining at many terrific restaurants, dddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================ddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd -0choices------ for restaurants as close as 2 miles away in down town Federal Way or down the hill 5 miles to down town Auburn. Auburn is also home to the Emerald Downs Race Track. A day at the races is only a 10 min drive from here.
If you love to hike, you've come to the right place. There are hundreds of hikes less than an hour away, in the nearby Cascade Mountains, and the foot hills, along with in Snoqualmie Pass, which is the pass that will take you over the mountains to Eastern Washington which has a much dryer and warmer climate than the Western side of the state.
I have always been an avid hiker and I've hiked many of the trails in this beautiful state. Let me know if you are in need of any me recommendations for great hikes that you may want to take during your stay. I'd be more than happy to share some of my all time favorite hikes with you. There are so many, I'm not able to list more than a couple here . Surely on the list of one of the most beautiful places to visit and to hike is at Mt Rainier National Park. Besides offering incredible hiking opportunities, there are restaurants, exhibits, along with a lodge that has scheduled activities and a variety of park tours, lead by the Park Rangers, The park offers an abundance of pristine views points, flowering meadows, alpine lakes and spectacular waterfalls can be seen from your car as, the drive to the Washington coast and be at the Pacific ocean in under two hours from my lake house. The small coastal town of Ocean Shores usually only takes an hour and half to get too. Feel free to take your car on the beach for a scenic drive while you are there, just be sure to be back on the paved roads before the tide comes in! You can also visit a Maritime Museum, rent a horse so you can go horse back riding on the beach. There are also small shops to do some shopping, as well as a bowling ally and restaurants.
About an hour from Ocean Shores you can visit the town of West Port, where you can charter a boat and go fishing for King Salmon or crabbing for the sweet and delicious Dungeness crab.
If you want to go clam digging, or hunt for oysters, the hood canal on the Olympic Peninsula is where you will find an abundance of clams, mussels and oysters. If you're not too excited about digging and hunting your own shell fish, no worries, there are several oyster and clam farms that have a shop where you can to stop on your way back and pick up a bucket of fresh shellfish in a bucket of salt water, to bring back with you.
If you do decide to go to the ocean you may want to also visit the Ho Rain Forest, which is next to the Washington Coast, and part of Olympic National Park. The rain forest is so beautiful! The constant dampness and rain being located between the Olympic Mountains and the Pacific Ocean creates the perfect eco system for an entire forest of moss covered trees. Some of the moss hangs from trees and reaches the forest floor making a soft cushioned walk through this amazing forest.
There are so many great attractions to see when you visit Washington the Evergreen State, but I have to say what I believe is our greatest attraction of all is seeing Mt St Helen's up close and personal. Mt St Helen's is located in the Cascade Mountain range, not a too far distance from Mt Rainier and Mt Adams which are also live volcanoes that could erupt again some day.
When you arrive at the mountain there is a parking area and a visitors center where you can see the before and after pictures of the mountain and learn all the details about the eruption and now the recovery. You can take a fairly easy walk for a short distance at the base of the mountain or even hike to the top of the mountain if you get an early start on a warm summer day.
For the folks that have any interest in Volcanoes, geology, or Washington state history, may find a visit to the mountain a terrific experience being able to see the devastation, destruction , and now the natures recovery with new growth forests after the 1980 eruption, of Washington's volcano, Mt St Helen's.
As you drive towards the mountain and when you think you are getting close and almost there, you will soon discover that you still have several miles until you arrive but the remnants of the destruction caused by the huge explosion that blew approximately 1/3 of the mountain into smithereens when St Helen's erupted are still visible today, even with the recovery of new growth forest that has been grohave now been grofor over 40 years.
